How to provide Samples on Amazon

Ways to make samples for your products work for you

How to and why samples are a good idea

Rundown of why samples are good and how to do them on Amazon

First off -- I'm changing the format for my newsletter - I will still be sending these to your mailbox but you will also have the option to view them on my site a blog format

Why am I changing this: I have no intention right now to monetize any of the value I give out - I do this as a creative way to get some cool strategies and ideas out to those who can use them.  -- so please enjoy the content and make sure to tell others to subscribe.

Down to business:

Lets list off some reasons why samples are good to do:

  • It helps customers see another version or whole different product

  • It gets another product in their hand to try - thus increasing the likelihood they will buy it

  • Think of Costco and the sample carts - try it and then buy it

  • Use a coupon to get them into bonus/ sample items to track performance

On Amazon, it can be tricky to get new or correlating products into your customer's hands. Amazon actually used to have a sample program -- through vendor central, I believe. I have not seen this in some time -- so just like everything else they probably discontinued it.

Recently I worked with a client to help develop a strategy on how to get more products into their ravings customers hands. They realized that their customers are 50% more likely to buy another one of their products if they just try it.

Below are the options that were given to make this happen:

- Use FBM and have an extra small size of another product as part of the bundle (you can do this with FBA as well-- see example image below)

- Create a virtual bundle with existing FBA items -- great way to prove a concept -- I have one brand that lifted there sales by 15% monthly by just doing this

- BOGO promotion -- Buy one product and get another free -- great way to get a free item into someones hand - this helps the ranking for both ASINS

Below is a pro and cons for each of these steps:

Here is an example fo a big brand doing this for a bonus items

Couple call outs:

  • calling it out on their packages

  • Adding one hour express whitestrips as a Bonus

  • Upsell or cross sell -- most likely have something in package to get them into the bonus item
